Because... they eat ants. LOL!! Just kidding.
There are so many black ants at our house now. The cooked food on the kitchen table must be covered nicely or else all the ants would start to crawl all over the good food. I'm not sure who, but somebody must have instilled the idea when we were small that if we consume our food or drinks that have ants in them, we would forget things easily hahaha...
Now, my eldest sis is saying the same thing to her 6-year-old daughter because she is also having problems with the red ants at their place. Even a single drop of food will attract them in just minutes. So, whenever my BIL forgets about something, my niece would seriously ask him, "Papa... DID you eat ants???" Hehehee... Normally, her dad doesn't get what she means about eating ants, so, he'd just let the question slips his mind hihihiii...
Anyway, let's go to Billy.com movers right now. Obviously, it has nothing to do with ants hehe, but it's about Savings Club on getting tips and advices on how to cut expenses on things like groceries, utility bills, and education or avoid overspending on unnecessary items and lots more . hmmm... i think ni 1st taim sa dingar psl ants and forgetfulness. Ni old wives tale mangkali la ni kan... would love to know how this belief came about :)

Yeah, we have the same problem in Bandung...ants crawl around WATER in a glass...and also sugary stuff...here in Finland ants are outside in summer, so even if we put sugary stuff or sugar in a bowl inside, there's no ant problem.

Amel: Oh, so the sugar is safe during summer hehe... At home we have to fill a plate or bowl with some water and then only we place another smaller plate for food inside.
Yeah, over here sugar and sugary food and water are safe from ants.
Amel: That's good. I hope the ants will somehow go away. It's just recently they start to infest (again) all over the place especially in the kitchen and sometimes on the walls.
